Owners Bio and Pioneer Jewelers History
Jack and I moved to Fairbanks, Alaska as young children many years ago and have made Alaska our home until just recently.
We moved to Juneau in 1971, beginning our retail careers in 1975 in a small shop on the Juneau waterfront. In those days, the cruise ship traffic was just beginning. The ships were small and the arrivals infrequent. No one imagined what the industry would become.
During the early years, Jack made jewelry utilizing the natural gold nuggets from the various regions of Alaska and the surrounding Yukon. Jack's continuing friendships with miners in these areas allow a continuous supply of fine quality natural gold nuggets for use in jewelry and for sale in their natural form.
Pioneer Jewelers is the result of over thirty years of our lives working in the Alaskan tourist and jewelry industry. And, in thirty years we only moved about six blocks along the same waterfront before moving to the Seattle waterfront early in 2010.
The new store is also called "Pioneer Jewelers" and is located at 1101 Alaskan Way, Pier 55, in the heart of the very active Seattle waterfront. We are continuing with many of the fine products that were available in the Juneau store as well as adding new items to the mix.
Leaving Juneau and our friends of many years was not an easy decision but we felt that the time had come to spend a bit more time doing things we loved in addition to retail. Jack is continuing his painting and has become quite an accomplished artist. Naturally he specializes in the Alaskan theme that he knows so well. He is always happy to show his work and share old Alaskan stories.
Please stop and see us either before or after your Alaskan cruise. We are always happy to see old friends and meet new ones.
Pioneer Jewelers is open daily. We are open shorter hours in the winter, and one of our friendly staff members is always available by telephone or online for orders, questions or the local weather forecast.
